Stéphane Beaulieu has long been involved, directly or indirectly, on the new music scene. An electric bassist by training, he also practices guitar, percussion, piano, double bass and loves to bring out the musical potential of "everything that produces sounds". Also a bachelor in music education at Laval University, he approaches various horizons of improvisational music, both in his personal and professional approach.
At the origin of several solo and self-produced projects with an experimental flavor, he always tries to tint them with a touch of madness and originality by exploring various areas of music as much in terms of style exercises as the search for new sounds and unusual textures. His experimental metal one-man-band, Afonlakes, and his covers of Christmas songs under the name of Ninja de Noël, are good examples.
His background as a music lover and his experience in several musical groups of various styles make Stéphane a versatile and open-minded musician. In the past, several opportunities have enabled him to collaborate with well-known figures in new music in Québec such as Frédéric Lebrasseur, Pierre Tanguay, Diane Labrosse, Erick Dorion and Tim Brady.
