Tom Jacques Band

In residence at the CEM, Tom Jacques wanted to explore in an original way the physical and acoustic principles of calls, small wooden instruments supposed to attract birds or game during hunting. By bringing together the practices of visual and sound arts, poetry and musical performance itself, he therefore wishes to put in place an interdisciplinarity in his project. Accompanied by instrumentalists from Rimouski, Montreal and Chicoutimi as well as sound devices straight out of his imagination, he created a series of spontaneous compositions "Qui c'est que c'est la nature?" "!

Multi-instrumentalist and sound artist, his artistic work oscillates between composition, improvisation, interpretation and the design of sound devices. He works in contemporary, jazz and percussive music. For more than 4 years, he has worked with various artists for the purpose of manufacturing musical instruments, allowing him to explore unique sound universes impossible to obtain with conventional instruments. Tom Jacques stands out among the young percussionists of Quebec; two-time scholarship holder of the Bas-Saint-Laurent Arts and Letters Program (2015/2016), two-time finalist in the Canadian Music Competition (2009/2010), recent scholarship holder of the Bas Saint-Laurent Territorial Partnership Program Laurent (2017). He was also a finalist for the 2016 Bas Saint-Laurent artistic talent prize and recipient of the 2017 Bas Saint-Laurent artistic talent prize.
