Member of the Saguenay Quartet (Alcan) and solo violist of the Saguenay Lac-St-Jean Symphony Orchestra since 1994, Luc Beauchemin is also a founding member of the Talisman Ensemble and is a violin and music teacher at the Saguenay Conservatory. Originally from Québec, he holds a bachelor's degree in violin from Laval University where he studied with György Terebesi. He also worked in France with Youri Bashmet. He was a member of the Sinfonietta of Radio-Canada, Les Violons du Roy, and the Arthur-Le Blanc Quartet in addition to collaborating in chamber music concerts with artists such as Alain Lefèvre, André Laplante, Maureen Forester, David Jalbert, Marc-André Hamelin, Yuli Turovsky, Charles Richard-Hamelin and the Orford quartet. Luc Beauchemin commissioned a very original work from Marc Bélanger, a concerto for "violinist-violist" and orchestra, where the soloist must successively plays the two parts of violin and viola. He also recorded a disc devoted to the music of André Mathieu, Arthur Le Blanc and Félix Leclerc. Luc Beauchemin plays on a viola by Québec luthier Gérard Arseneault.
The Saguenay String Quartet, of which Luc Beauchemin is a member, enjoys the enviable reputation of being one of the most dynamic chamber music groups in Canada. The group has also recorded some twenty records. It should be noted that the quartet presented the complete cycle of Beethoven's quartets in six Québec cities during a series of concerts broadcast twice by Radio-Canada, in addition to having recorded them on the Atma label. The Alcan Quartet has performed throughout the United States, including Hawaii, and has visited Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, Denmark, China and Hong Kong.
The Talisman Ensemble, of which Luc Beauchemin is one of the founding members, is a Saguenean musical ensemble calling on a variable number of musicians, according to desires and crushes. Its mission is to present original concerts and recordings which are not limited to a particular style, genre or audience. The origins of the ensemble go back to the performance in 2011 of Joseph Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ in the string quartet version. The tradition has continued every Good Friday since then. The Talisman ensemble aims to be a place of experimentation for its members, and an additional tool for musicians and creators of all artistic disciplines.
The Talisman Ensemble has also been invited to the Auditorium D’Alma, the Chapelle St-Cyriac, in Rivière-Éternité, at the Camp Musical du Lac St-Jean, twice in Québec City. The ensemble's recordings are broadcast regularly on Radio-Canada and Radio-Classique. The Talisman Ensemble works regularly with composer Luc St-Pierre and has recorded his music for several documentaries by British director Malcolm Clarke, as well as music for the web series by Saguenean director Philippe Belley. In addition to participating on the Saguenean artists Yvon Dachille and Marc Deschênes' albums, the Talisman Ensemble participated alongside the CEM at Rétroviseur: opening night of the Festival des Musiques de création in tribute to composer Jean-Pierre Bouchard, in May 2017.
