The Centre d'Expérimentation Musicale and Corne de Brume are very happy to invite you to attend Stéphane Diamantakiou's concert. He will present the result of a month of work carried out in residence at the CEM, where he developed the first part of this large-scale project. Le Double is the new musical project led by bassist Stéphane Diamantakiou. The main idea of the project is to play with the codes of “dub” music; a creative and playful sound research superimposed on rhythms and textures a priori contradictory or even incompatible. Through uninhibited compositions, the ensemble brings to life a life-size remix by superimposing asymmetrical grooves, the dazzling rock or even meditative atmospheres. Through the unique aspect of each performance, Le Double will introduce listeners to mixtures that are as exciting as they are unusual.

Stéphane Diamatakiou is a bassist and double bassist. Originally from Marseille, he has been living in Quebec since 2011. He develops a double bass playing in contexts of improvisation and interpretation, both in jazz circles, free improvisation and new music. Inspired by the approaches of Mark Dresser, Barre Philips and Stefano Scodanibbio, he builds a personal repertoire with innovative timbral research mixed with different tuning possibilities. Solo, his music unfolds in dialogue, with the acoustic space in which he is located and with encounters that are like so many resonant handles found during navigation. His intention is for the gesture to become "right", in line with his inner voice, the one that allows him to compose freely in the moment. Stéphane is the recipient of the François Marcaurelle prize from the 2019 OFF Jazz Festival, a scholarship holder from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and the Canada Council for the Arts.
