Pier-Yves Girard began his musical training at the Atelier de Musique de Jonquière at the age of 11. He completed his entire college and university education at the Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay in the trombone class of Steve Langevin until obtaining his master's degree in performance in 2012. During his musical training, he also had the opportunity to participate in master classes with Alain Trudel, Pierre Beaudry, Douglas Burden, Jonas Bylund and Jesper Busk Sorensen. Pier-Yves has been a trombonist with the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean symphony orchestra since 2011 as second trombone and solo trombone. He also participates in various musical projects of different styles in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region, in particular in partnership with the Centre d'Expérimentation Musicale and various local artists. He is currently pursuing a career in the Canadian Armed Forces as a trombonist and conductor with the Musique du Régiment du Saguenay. He also teaches trombone at the Collège d'Alma.
A doctoral student in neuropsychology at UQAC, he is currently conducting a research project on the impact of listening to music on attention. He has also contributed to various research projects at the University of Montreal, at the International Brain and Music Research Laboratory (BRAMS).
