Ensemble Hopper

Musique contemporaine

L’Ensemble Hopper est né du désir de jouer et diffuser la musique de son entourage. Défendues avec passion et engagement, les créations se sont succédées pour former un répertoire propre qui n’a pas tardé à s’élargir au niveau international. 

« Of definition of ground » de James O’Callaghan, pour quatuor et électronique joue sur les ruptures rythmiques, baignées par un bruit de buzz (le « ground » retranscrit notamment à la guitare) et laisse une belle place à de l’improvisation encadrée par une écriture assez rigoureuse. 

H#1|2|3|4 de Pierre Slinckx est un cycle en 4 parties aux dimensions colossales, à l’orchestration extrêmement riche et fournie, qui ne finit pas de s’élever dans un climax renouvelé à chaque mesure. Préparez-vous pour un voyage extatique au travers des vagues submergeantes, puissantes, quelque peu psychédéliques, de sons qui fleurissent à l’infini et de textures qui s’élèvent de manière obsessionnelle.

Pierre Slinckx

Pierre Slinckx est né en 1988 à Bruxelles. Il s'intéresse aux formes longues et écrit principalement de la musique fusionnant électronique live et instruments acoustiques. Le label belge Cyprès a publié quatre albums monographiques : “C#1” pour orgue et électronique (avec Cindy Castillo), “M#1” pour quatuor à cordes et électronique (avec le Quatuor MP4), “H#1|2|3|4” pour 9 musiciens (Ensemble Hopper) et “C#2” pour organetto et électronique (avec Cindy Castillo).

Parallèlement à son activité musicale, il enseigne l'analyse musicale à ARTS2 (Mons) et il cogère SMOG, une salle de concerts bruxelloise mêlant musiques de tradition classique et musiques alternatives et expérimentales.

À travers Lascaux, les deux compositeurs et interprètes italiens rendent hommage aux grottes éponyme et à la naissance de l'Art. Inspiré du texte de Georges Bataille sur ces grottes peintes il y a 20 000 ans, la prestation entend retracer et revivre l'instant inconscient où est née cette impulsion créatrice qui a laissé une empreinte de l’Histoire. 

Cette performance offre un dialogue synesthésique entre néons et sons électroniques qui rythment et progresse par tableaux, marqués par des éclairs visuels et sonores. 

Vittorio Montalti 

Vittorio Montalti was born in Rome in 1984. He graduated in piano with Aldo Tramma at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and in composition with Alessandro Solbiati at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He then perfected his skills at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia under the guidance of Ivan Fedele and studied electronic music by attending the Cursus 1 and Cursus 2 at the IRCAM - Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2010, as part of the Venice Biennale - 54th International Contemporary Music Festival, he was awarded the Silver Lion for Creativity. In 2016, he was awarded the "Una Vita nella Musica" award from the Gran Teatro La Fenice. His music has been performed at various festivals such as the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, Gran Teatro La Fenice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Rome Opera Theatre, Roma Europa Festival, IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, Venice Biennale, Teatri di Reggio Emilia/Festival Aperto, Teatro Regio di Parma/Verdi Festival, Teatro Lirico di Spoleto, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Toscana Regional Orchestra, Bergamo Musica Festival, Festival Traiettorie, Sinfonieorchester Orchesterzentrum | NRW, Italian Cultural Institutes in Sydney, Melbourne, London, Paris, Strasbourg, and many others. He was composer in residence at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris (2013), the American Academy in Rome - Marcello Lotti Italian Fellowship (2014), Civitella Ranieri Foundation (2017), Fortissimissimo Firenze Festival - Amici della Musica di Firenze (2017), Divertimento Ensemble (2018), and La Societ. dei Concerti di Milano (2018/2019). He is also a member of Nuova Consonanza. Vittorio is particularly interested in musical theater and has written four operas with librettos by Giuliano Compagno that have been staged with different productions. He has worked with directors Francesco Saponaro, Alessio Pizzech, Claudia Sorace/Muta Imago and Giancarlo Cauteruccio. In 2021 he debuted at the Roma Europa Festival with Blow Up Percussion and Tempo Reale with his work The smell of blue electricity, where he is involved as composer and performer. He teaches composition at the Potenza Conservatory. His music written up until 2017 is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni - SugarMusic S.p.A. Since 2018 his works have been published by Casa Ricordi - Universal Music Publishing. 

Giulio Colangelo 

Giulio is a composer, graduated in electroacoustic composition and digital audiovisual composition with honors, after studying with Giampiero Gemini and Alessandro Cipriani at the Frosinone Conservatory. His artistic research explores the interferences between contemporary instrumental and electronic music, using cross-media experimentation. Part of his work involves audiovisual composition, mixed media performances, and sound installations. His works have been performed by numerous ensembles, awarded in international competitions throughout Europe, the US, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea, and Africa, and broadcasted on Radio France, Radio4, Brava TV, VPRO, and Rai Radio 3. He worked in residence at ZKM [zentrum für kunst und medien], performed at the Centre Pompidou / IRCAM, and contributed to the large exhibit “Sound Art - Sound as a Medium of Art” curated by P.Weibel. He was one of five composers nominated for the prestigious Gaudeamus Music Award (2016 - Netherlands). Recently won the 2019 Prix CIME and first prize at the Destellos Prize, and performed at the MEN (Musica Electronica Nova 2019 - Wrocław) and ARS ELECTRONICA 2019 (Linz). In 2021, he created “Cabin Fever” for Milan Design Week, an interactive installation with clear references to the pandemic situation. Since 2016, he is the artistic director of the MA/IN festival (electroacoustic music and digital art festival) and the artistic director of the IN VITRØ sound art project ~ for Matera 2019 - European Capital of Culture. He’s published by AIMI, Babelscores, Sonic Art Award, ICMA, Electro:thèque, ZKM, TAUKAY, ARS Publica, TWS, Stradivarius. He teaches electroacoustic composition at the Conservatory of Lecce (LEM).
